NonPop paid a visit to New Orleans for the first week of their annual Jazz & Heritage
Festival. The festival consists of Costco portions of ridiculously
talented musicians,
rich foods and fun loving people.
Jazz Fest occurs on the expansive Fair Grounds Race Course, which hosts ten stages for performances where you could check out the likes of
Max Roach, Nicholas Payton, Los Hombres Calientes, and many others (Wall Flowers???). Jazz Fest contains no dearth of music to check out.
It's important to note that the Jazz atmosphere ain't limited to the Fair Grounds, in fact the whole city's throwin' down N'awlins
style in the clubs, restaurants, and art galleries, even in the streets! If NonPop had to choose a madness, this would be the most enticing brand.
Music:
- Battle of the Bands: Ervin Mayfield vs. Kermit Ruffins at House of Blues. Revenge never sounded so sweet nor ended so cordially cacophonous!!!
- Nicholas Payton in the Jazz Tent: Big band Blastin' lovely Louis Armstrong. It was during Payton's second song that mo experienced his
Jazz Fest epiphany, "I see now the difference. There is Jazz, and there is cheese." Good one mo, you sure you weren't a genius in your past life?
- Max Roach in the Jazz Tent: Apparently, all this man needs is a cymbal to get the crowd's heads bobbin'. Anything more would make Satan forget to act treacherous, and there was certainly more!
Food:
The one thing nobody gets at Jazz Fest, is relaxation. We can all relax when we get back to work. That said, NonPop hopes to see you there next year!
